Goldenrule#3: List things you value, and do not stray away

Writing down what you value may be easy, but harder for others.

Quickly write down your list of values and determine if you are doing things in your life that satisfy them.

Here is an example of a value list for someone who is thinking about their next move in their career path:

1)family                             4)security

2)work-life balance           5)mobility

3)flexibility                         6)money

From this list, we can see that the person may want to get a job that is close to home. They may want a 9-5 job providing them more of a balance with their time. They may want a job with a flexible work environment meaning that they have a say in when to come in, when to have lunch, where to work (at the office, at home) and maybe even ask for more vacation days to cruise with their family. Security on the list shows that the person wants to look for a career that is not “risky.” Ask yourself, “what careers are popular right now and will be popular in the next 10 years?”

Do you see where this is going?

Making this list is not mandatory but it gives you a more structured idea of what you want and why you want it. Envision it, then attain it!
