ScholarMatch

I am going to switch things up a bit.

Last week I sat in on a History class. The professor was commenting on “The Epic of Gilgamesh.” In this quest, a divine human named Gilgamesh seeks out immortality as a result of his friend’s death. He is not successful but once he returns to his city, the people write about his accomplishments and life story on clay tablets. These are then passed down to generations.

The professor then states that part of life is dying. BUT what can be immortalized are our memories and legacies.

Ok, so where am I getting at right?

50+ years from now, would you like it for someone you made an impact on to speak greatly about you to their grandchildren?

Introducing…SCHOLARMATCH!

Scholarmatch is a program that helps connect donors to college-bound students. These students are then brought closer to their goals of getting into college.

Here is the link to their impacts page: http://scholarmatch.org/about/impact/

Now, what is in it for you right? Think about where your donation is going! You are giving access to a student who is working hard but sees no results due to financial struggles. Not only will you contribute through financial means, but you will be paired up with a buddy scholar. It is important to guide them and mentor them throughout college. They will truly appreciate the help.

Tania Cruz (Scholar) writes “Work hard, never give up, and never forget those who help you.”

Learn more about how you can make an impact by visiting the site: http://scholarmatch.org/

If you cannot contribute now, keep this program in the back of your head for when you can!

The Fulbright Programs

Hey Everyone,

I found about this opportunity this year and they are accepting applications. Act fast because the deadline is October 15th 2013! Here is the description I found on their website: Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences.  The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.

They have different types of grants to apply for. To check these out, visit http://us.fulbrightonline.org/types-of-grants

My friend received a Business Fulbright which includes a full ride scholarship to study in Mexico City and work for an amazing Consulting company. The Fulbright program has multiple opportunities for U.S. students & Non-U.S. students.

Check out http://www.iie.org/Fulbright to see the other programs.

I hope all of this helps! If I can make an impact on one person, and they can make an impact on another person, who knows how many doors we can open!
